Graduation Sunday 2025

How many of you had a picture in your head of how life was supposed to go?

Matthew 26:31-33 (NLT) – 31  On the way, Jesus told them, “Tonight all
of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, ‘God will strike the
Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’  32  But after I
have been raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee
and meet you there.”  33  Peter declared, “Even if everyone else
deserts you, I will never desert you.”

Matthew 16:18 (ESV) – And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this
rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail
against it.

Matthew 26:34-35 (NLT) – 34  Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before
the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know
me.” 35  “No!” Peter insisted. “Even if I have to die with you, I will NEVER
deny you!” And all the other disciples vowed the same.

God is not caught off guard

Failure is not Final with Jesus

John 21:4-8 – 4  Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.  5  Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.”  6  He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.  7  That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea.  8  The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off…

Some of us are so desperate for the blessings when we should be desperate for the blesser

John 21: 15-17 –15  When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”  16  He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”  17  He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.

Jesus has a plan to redeem you

Acts 1:8 (ESV) – 8  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 2:1-4 (ESV) – When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.  2  And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.  3  And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them.  4  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:37- 39 (ESV) – 37  Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, 37 and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”  38  And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  39  For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.
