Do Good

Series Verse:
Proverbs 1:7 (NLT)Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

You were created to do good!

Proverbs 11:17 (NLT)Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you.

Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Is your good a help or hindrance?

Proverbs 16:26 (NLT)It is good for workers to have an appetite; an empty stomach drives them on.

Is your good authentic or fake?

Luke 14:12–14 (NLT)Then he turned to his host. “When you put on a luncheon or a banquet,” he said, “don’t invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will invite you back, and that will be your only reward. 13 Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. 14 Then at the resurrection of the righteous, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you.”

Holy Spirit discernment is needed in doing good.

Proverbs 3:27 (NLT)Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.

Boundaries in doing Good

No More, No Less

Luke 10:25–37 (NLT)

Do Good in Community

Ultimate Act of Goodness

Memory Bank of Heaven

Galatians 6:9 (NLT)So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Discouragement à Cynicism à Self-absorption

Matthew 25:34–40 (NLT)“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. 36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’ 37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

As our external world shrinks, our internal world shrivels. When we turn our backs on the needs of others, we turn our backs on the needs of our souls.
